Ardtarmon Thatched Cottage | Description

Ardtarmon House is set among mature grounds in a quiet location in beautiful rural surroundings on the north coast of Sligo Bay, 19Km north west of Sligo town in the Yeats Country.

The Thatched Cottage has two small adjoining living room areas, a kitchen and two small bedrooms, one a double and one with adult sized bunk beds, and a bathroom. There is an open fireplace and central heating. The cottage is snug and charming and faces onto the Main House front lawn. There is a notable feeling of quietness and peace as the nearest minor road is a quarter mile away.

The grounds were developed around 1900 and have been expanded since. Original paths have been reopened and the shelter belts towards the west extended. There is an extensive fruit orchard with thirty apple varieties and other fruit. A weather station is also located here with rainfall records since 1985 and temperature since 1994.

The surrounding twenty eight hectare farm has cattle, sheep, grain, vegetables and potatoes etc. as well as a bog conservation area.

Three hectares are devoted to growing willow as fuel for the wood chip boiler for central heating in all the buildings. We are actively pursuing a green agenda in many respects including house and grounds management.

Amenities include many small walks in the grounds and a five hundred meter path to the south facing beach which is safe for swimming and from which walks of many miles can commence. There is a table tennis room in the converted stable and outside plenty of space for children to play hide and seek and to roam and discover.

We are happy to assist with suggestions and the magazine 'Discover Sligo' offers much information on Golf, Horse Riding, Surfing etc. - visit www.discoversligo.com for more information.

Between 3 and 30Km there are harbours, beaches, quiet country roads, Lissadell House and Gardens (the childhood home of Countess Markievicz), many mountains, rivers and lakes, four seaside resorts and Sligo, the largest regional town in the North West.
