Ballygar is situated adjacent to the River Suck, which forms the County boundary between Counties Galway and Roscommon. Ballygar and its environs is an ideal place for a selfcatering holiday due to its proximity to many scenic areas of interest dotted throughout many neighbouring Counties but in particular the Western coastal Counties such as Galway, Sligo, Mayo etc, day trips are highly recommended and achievable.

Ballygar itself with its long street and squares are kept neat and tidy and it is not surprising that the town has won a number of Bord Failte Tidy Town Awards.

Killeroran self catering Holiday Home is situated 1.5 km from the village. It is located beside Aughrane state forest, which adjoins a more extensive forest covering many thousands of hectares.

The locality provides an endless supply of forest walks with an abundance of Flora and Fauna including Wild Deer. A large expanse of bog, both raised and harvested can be seen on most of the approach roads to the village. The bog provides many walks and has a copious supply of its own Flora and Fauna. Turf is still harvested by the local people for use in their domestic heating systems.

Fishing on the local fresh water lakes and rivers provides unparalleled exposure to large stocks of Pike, Perch, Trout, Bream and Eel. Salmon were also caught mainly on the Suck and Shiven. Ballygar has many pubs, shops, and a bank with an ATM facility.

The 70 year old, two storey house is built on the site of the old thatched residence, home to the Egan family, where they farmed for generations. The present structure is built of limestone, thus the thick walls. Slight internal renovations were carried out some years ago, with great care taken to maintain the old farmhouse features.
